Abstract

The teaching of thermodynamics, as traditionally done, has been generally well accepted. However, we have realized that if this teaching is combined with the use of tables to calculate P, V, T, using the ideal gas state equation PV = nRT the student can learn these subjects better. Also, we combine the use of ∆U, Q, W, together with the first law of thermodynamics ∆U = Q - W, the entropy of the system and its surroundings and the second law of the thermodynamics ∆S = ∆Q/T. In addition, we utilize VP and ST diagrams, where the students visualize the politropic processes and its interpretation, so they have a best understanding of the thermodynamics in a pleasant and amusing way. We show in this work the way to use the method with many examples. We have a computational program named “TERMITA” that help us to obtain calculations for filling the tables. This original teaching method, where tests are carried out filling tables and analyzing diagrams, allow a faster and better evaluation of the course.
