Abstract

A model to represent the seed water equilibrium process in the genebank to constant temperature is proposed. This model refers to the behaviour of the water potentials in seed and its surrounding air, using an equation for seed water activity with respect to seed water content. Mathematical calculations, from the sorption process simulation of the seed, were carried out through the model equations and a computer. A mathematical relationship, between the equilibrium moisture content of the seed and the relative humidity in the open air, is obtained and verified by experimental methods in ten plant species.
